Have you ever noticed – there are two kinds of music? No, not teenage music and adult music. No, not even secular
music and religious music.
There’s music for listening
to.
And there’s
music for not listening to.
The second kind doesn’t necessarily
come only from teenagers, with their boom-boxes, MP-3 players, I-Tunes, or other modes of broadcasting and blasting out decibels.
Think about the background music that plays in stores and offices and elevators. It’s played and recorded so that you
won’t pay attention to it, so that it can influence you without your ever being aware of it.
For many of us, brought up in the Christian faith, Christianity has become a kind of
background music. It’s so familiar; it has been there so long, that we don’t even notice it any more.
The question is, does it still have the power to influence us?
Or do we just ignore it?
I’m so looking forward to God
leading this church in the direction of an Associate Pastor of Worship. This person, whom I believe God has already chosen,
will help us become transformed, not only by the music in worship, but all aspects of the worship experience. I am so looking
forward to adding some additional elements to worship such as drama, interpretative dance, both choral and praise band music,
and creative readings…as we seek to use everything available to us to make our worship one that glorifies God. I hope
you are getting excited with me. The Staff Search Committee is working hard to make this a reality and I hope you are praying
for them and the person whom God has chosen. So, as we wait on Him, let’s continue to make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
In Him,
Pastor Mark
